Absence focuses and aims to represent inner psychological traumas, specifically looking towards the experiences of heartbreak, grief, and loss. These experiences are shared among us collectively; pain and suffering are something that we all endure. However, our own individual encounters with such are oftentimes held within something that we keep private and disallow from being seen by others. Through Realistic and naturalistic representational self-portrait, Absence reflects on my personal, specific life experience of losing a close loved one and lacking a significant connection or relationship with my father both of which result in a feeling of absence, or a type of void. How one fills this void, or copes with loss, varies from individual to individual, and this work reflects my personal approach.
