All That's Left is a creation of the last seed pod on earth. A hybrid born of nature’s destruction, born of human striving, ignorance, hope and denial. The human face is long gone, but an echo remains, informing new patterns and growth, speaking to what is innate in all of life, in us and in nature. It's an exploration and creation of how the earth might begin again. All That’s Left is an encaustic mixed media sculpture. The base was made from a wire mesh frame covered with plaster wrap, then stained with homemade walnut ink and covered with many layers of encaustic wax and pigment sticks for color. The interior eggs were made from encaustic wax and painted with pigment sticks. The brown edges were made from a fiber interfacing material, stained with walnut ink and covered with encaustic wax. The holes were created with a wood-burning iron, then the encaustic wax was fused together to create the pod. The copper rings circling the pod add depth and movement to the structure.
