Each artwork in my Equilibrium Series depicts two figures in harmonious configurations, where one figure supports the other, reinforcing the balance and oneness of the relationship. I wanted this painting to be fun. I feel juxtaposing subjects that are mismatched can have a disconcerting reaction from viewers, but that is what usually gets their attention. The unfamiliar feeling creates a sense of the unbalance to the psyche. It’s like bumping into someone you know or have known in a different situation other than “how you know them,” a cognitive dissonance. The resto of the painting is like a puzzle to solve. I try to offer enough visually to entertain viewers who like paintings, drawings, sculpture and the arts. I use the figure in an abstracted way to create the patterns, harmonies, and textures to pull in the viewer. The narrative is only important as far as a viewer’s imagination might take it. My paintings tell me something different every day.
