Mark E. Miltz

I am a working commercial illustrator, fine artist and art educator with a BA and MA in studio art. I work primarily in drawing and in oils, with a concentration on the figure, often from life. I do dabble in sculpture and other media as well. I currently teach at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, but have been teaching college art courses in a variety of disciplines since 2007, as well as occasional workshops.



"Since 2000, he has returned to his first love, representational painting. Concentrating on the figure, he brings to his work a high level of draftsmanship, combined with an appreciation for the abstract qualities of the paint itself. Miltz attacks his subjects with energetic paint, powerful composition and a strong sense of light. Yet this energy is tempered with profound respect for the great tradition of western figure painting. Though modern in concept, the work pays homage to the masters of the past."
