My work is generally best interpreted through the lens of the viewer’s own life experiences, with meaning placed upon it unencumbered by my own intent. This piece is an exception to that rule. One of the first pieces after a car accident that should have been fatal, “Cosmic” is part of a series that serves as a contemplation of fate, mortality, and the fragility of the human experience. The use of charcoal is purposeful, with the values of dark and light serving as a reminder of the spectrum between life and death, and the simplistic nature of charcoal on paper allowing me to explore my thoughts uninhibited.
