Grief is unavoidable and shakes us to the core - it manifests thoughts that question life and purpose and ultimately leave us dangling on a string. After losing a loved one, I began searching for photographs and discovered rolls of undeveloped film. I used these images and others collected from family members to form the framework of my story as well as tatted lace created by my paternal grandmother, spools of thread and a pattern from my mother and natural objects. Natural objects have kept me grounded throughout my life. This work holds tales collected over 66 years. They are woven tightly, bound inside me and provide a sacred place for me to reflect on who I am. My work explores the connection of family and identity held together by strings and memories passed through the ages. I communicate my understanding of self and reflect on my dreams that have evolved over time through art.
