We are facing two polarizing issues in the United States: marijuana legalization and gun laws. This diptych compares these issues to an unfaithful relationship and the need to make a decision. Decide Piece refers to “side piece” – a term that describes the person you are being unfaithful with. The symbolism in this half of the diptych includes the color yellow to represent childhood and a gloved hand to ensure protection and is in the position of the letter "D". The second half of the diptych, Decide Peace, is my interpretation of the comprehensive gun laws that are currently being debated. Symbolism on this side includes the number 2 on the door – which refers to the 2nd amendment. The gloved hand is symbolic of the protection of a contraceptive or a firearm and the two blue figures on the thighs represent victims of gun violence.
