Overstreet Ducasse is a mixed media artist who was born in Haiti and is currently based in Jacksonville Florida. Ducasse came to the United States at the age of six. Unfamiliar with the new environment, language, and culture, he turned to art as a means of expression and a way to communicate. Ducasse’s work goes beyond the surface. It is direct and indirect with an abundance of symbolism, metaphors, irony, humor, and exposing of hypocrisy. This allows the viewer to be captivated by the imagery but also inspires them to decode the statement he is trying to convey. He documents the time in his pieces by dissecting and melding gun range targets into magazine covers he calls The Floreada Targets. These series of targets are reflective of the time, place, and sentiment of significant issues and is meant to create dialog and promote civic engagement.
