When I moved to Georgia I was greeted with all sorts of new experiences that were not available in the Midwest. All of my work centered around the flora and fauna of the tall grass prairie so moving south was a big shift in my environment and its inhabitants. One such inhabitant was the Green Tree Frog, which just so happens to be the official Georgia state amphibian. I was fascinated with these frogs and their colors. This is not something we have in the Midwest so the vibrant green was spectacular. I was also fascinated at night as they would enter from the dark into the light on our sliding glass window. This movement was something that I wanted to capture in my "Expanimal" series. The catch was it had to be from one sheet of expanded metal with nothing removed, creating patterns that could be formed into the Green Tree Frog. The final shape is exquisite and flows like the actual frog on my windows. I add spinner blades for movement and a simulated water effect on the wall.
