I graduated from McNeese University in Psychology in 2014, but half way through my masters degree I had my son. The day my son was born he was diagnosed with a brain malformation called Lissencephaly, for which the life expectancy is 10 years. My husband and I decided to move to South Carolina where our son's medical needs could be better met. Over time, I needed to be more available to him at home and stopped working. I wanted to help contribute to the household income, and turned to the only thing I had left; an old talent I'd left behind in high school. It all started with a graphite portrait of my son, which sparked interest online and commissions for portraits of children with the same disease flowed in. I started reaching out to different mediums like acrylics, scratch boards, and collage. In 2021, I learned how to use oil paints and feel finally as though I can fully express myself fully with it. I moved into my own studio in 2022, and can't wait to see where it will go.
