Family is the bedrock of society. Coming from a close-knitted family in the eastern part of Nigeria, I grew up understanding the importance of family and the role mothers play as they help to mould the human spirit by clothing, disciplining, teaching, and loving us unconditionally. I believe and see the community around me as the same family. However, migrating to America revealed an existing prejudice among races. Generally, as individuals, we are ambassadors of our families and are the same people separated by prejudice but could be bound by proper education. The mothers at the lower side of the painting are intentionally drawn in ink and the ink is a metaphor for knowledge. The ink is extended in the painting to each individual of different races as a pedigree of knowledge. "Gold Cloak of Mother's Touch", in panel (individual canvas) represents the foundation of different family, and the role it plays in instilling and bridging the much-needed gap in discrimination.
