In the most recent works, I have begun exploring the conceptual slippage inherent in art’s contact with contemporary culture. The work attempts to reclaim pop culture (especially southern culture) images as transcendent or magical and worth investigating. In this series, I use images from professional wrestling reimagined as monumental sculptures, as found in Renaissance and Baroque sculptures. This juxtaposition challenges the viewer to accept the grand theater of Professional Wrestling, or other southern cultural expressions, as potentially transformational artworks.
