I imagine the maternal experience as an enveloping, polymorphous mass that is ever stretching, fracturing, and shifting.My work documents and aestheticizes my personal experience of being a mother to my young children, Samuel and Kora Quinn. This crocheted labyrinth is the visual metaphor of my struggle as both a mother and an artist; my quest to find balance between two passions that often conflict with one another. The work has a supernatural quality which expresses the illusory stasis of finding the sweet spot, the balancing of time dedicated to my children or my work, that leaves neither neglected. This installation is my proclamation that this space simply does not exist and instead I am in a constant flux and left feeling torn and fragmented.
