My work is created by sanding charcoal into 300lb printmaking paper. I work from photos taken on my iPhone as most drawings are of people I meet on the street or where they work. This process is quite time consuming. I usually work in a 40x30 format or larger. Although it is a difficult process I find it suits the emotional quality I look for in my models. Charcoal creates a dark moody environment. the image seems to appear thru smoke. Most of my work captures figures in moments of silent contemplation. I look for models who have the unique ability to transport the viewer into their inner worlds, giving the viewer just a glimpse at the emotions lying right below the surface.
