Artist Statement

"Main Title and First Victim" is a collage made out of trash pieces documented through the cyanotype process. The found trash was collected in coastal areas in Charleston, South Carolina. Each piece of trash was created into a cyanotype photogram and then cut out. All the pieces were then arranged in a way that pulls the viewers into the work, asking them to search through the large volume of layered cutouts to find familiar objects. It aims to bring to light issues like human consumption, plastic pollution, and throw-away culture.

Carson Carroll

Charleston, SC

Carson Carroll is an emerging, interdisciplinary artist based in the Carolinas. She received her BFA from Winthrop University in 2019. She is currently creating work that focuses on environmental and social issues such as; human consumption, throw-away culture, and plastic pollution. Working with found objects and a variety of mediums like; digital and alternative processes of photography, installation, and sculpture, Carroll creates work that connects viewers to a message. Her interactive and participatory work brings awareness to environmental issues in an effort to promote the self-education of the viewers.
