A quote by Michelangelo: “The sculpture is already complete within the marble block before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material”. I never thought of this before, however, my work with this alabaster seems to prove this true. I’ve recently become aware of Pareidolia. Pareidolia is the tendency to see faces in inanimate objects. That is what gave me the ability to see the sculpture in my alabaster. Spraying it with water brought out the natural colors and markings of the alabaster. Then using pareidolia and intuition, the sculpture emerged. The first face to appear was the large white face stretching diagonally across the rock. Then one by one six more faces appeared. Each image developed its own individual personality and attitude, its story to be shared. The diversity that showed up was amazing.: A world of individuals from all nations joining together, supporting each other to create a beautiful, peaceful world.
