While doing volunteer work in the Dominican Republic, this young Haitian girl deeply touched my heart. No matter their circumstance, the children still laughed and played around us. There is a sense of hope and wonder in her face, formed by the play of light and shadow that I strove to capture in transparent watercolor. She was certainly, pretty in pink.
