Since 1993 “STRUCTURE OUT OF CHAOS” has been documenting chronically homeless Americans living in non-traditional dwellings. It’s a paradox photographing the homeless, in their homes with the intent of shedding light on this domestic humanitarian crisis. The goal is to inspire an informed discourse about the unhoused The federal government’s response is a rapid rehousing program. However, two of the three factors creating chronic homelessness cannot be solved with housing. Those factors are mental illness and substance use disorders, which tend to be intertwined. After being housed these issues lead many back to the streets About half of the people photographed for this series last year are now deceased including the man in the photo. If we continue ignoring vulnerable people, then this trauma will proceed unabated. This work focuses on barriers to ending this epidemic while humanizing the victims It strives to end American Homelessness and be a platform for people without one
