On a land fertilized by the blood of our ancestors and indigenous brothers and sisters, our rage is justified and necessary. There is a politics of anger: who is allowed to get angry, whose anger goes unseen, and who seems angry when they are not. Centuries of erasure and the violent ways oppression acts on the body and psyche have largely mythologized our experience, limiting the way anger is translated across racial lines. Our rage is rooted in a system that was never meant to understand our rage or humanity. We were barred from residing in the haven of rage; doing so would tap into an ecosystem of pain and power that bends space and time. Within our current context, Black rage is instrumental in connecting “non-beings”, world-building, and bending.
