I immigrated as a child from Europe. My father was an engineer & had a love for oil painting. I would later follow in his steps. I am a veteran, having served in the Marine Corps during Viet Nam. Afterward, I attended Berry College in Rome, GA and graduated with a Chemistry degree. I worked as a Chemist for the state of SC for 15 years and then, did youth work/pastored for 32 years.
When I underwent open heart surgery in 2016, my daughter bought me art supplies for my recovery. After decades absent, I began to experiment with an old love of art, the smell of oils & that thrill to create what was in my heart. I love painting ships & oceans, marshes, the beach, and mountains. Water fascinates me.
In 2020, I was juried into the Dogwood Festival Art Show. I received First Place with a 30x40 marsh scene, "Peace, Be Still". I also received an Honorable Mention for "Low Tide". Just recently, I won a merit award for my painting, "The Patriot" at the SC State Fair, 2022 --ArtbyHorst.com
