This sculpture was created from a mold of an actual person. I made a plaster mold to get the basic size and shape of the figure. I used 3 basic size concrete cut nails. I start by welding the nails together in a vertical pattern until the I get a shape that I’m happy with. I determine which areas I will leave open to create negative space. I try to create balance without symmetry. My idea behind this piece was to express the the female figure using strong,cold and hard materials. The vertical position of the nails are to create an upward motion. The nails represent the strength and resilience of women. The absence of color represents all ethnic and cultural backgrounds
