In the 11th century Polynesians discovered Pitcairn Island 1350 miles of open ocean from the nearest land. Humans do not seem to be daunted by immense distances in their drive to explore. We have now explored our Solar System and the Voyager Missions are sending data from interstellar space. The images from NASA's Hubble, Juno and James Webb platforms have been consistently and insistingly inspiring and have beautifully stitched together art and science. The Tarantula Nebula is 161,100 light years distant in the Large Magellanic Cloud.
