The Seat of Praus My latest work focuses on creating a sense of place where one can physically rest and reflect while interacting with a sculpture. This piece was inspired by a 15th century tomb in Ireland. The gothic lacework looked like flames to me. Working on this piece and seeing the shapes and flow of the parts intersecting, melding together, always ascending upward, I began to see a tree of life symbol. I came to realize the meaning of this piece for me was about finding the center in life. In Greek the word Praus (meek) is used to define the nautical term meaning to stay on course, going neither too far to the right or too far to the left but seeking the center. All the elements flow from the center or are returning to the center. The Seat of Praus is ergonomically designed for comfort. Please sit down on the bench and experience how it feels. It is not a coincidence that the most comfortable place to set for most people is in the center of the bench.
