"Torso #4" is an exploration in a series of 4 various large scale paintings titled "Elevating the Queer Body". Each painting is an exploration in depicting my torso through abstraction. Through the use of abstraction, I veil my figure as a way of resisting the male gaze. Through an overlay of ornamentation, these paintings become glorified in a style inspired by the sacred essence of various different Islamic Mosques interiors. This painting in particular is created through using a dremel tool onto thick layers of acrylic paint. Through this subtractive process of intensive sanding is an attempt to vulnerably reveal thin layer of canvas disguised by acrylic paint.
