This work was created as part of a collaboration between Ford's mixed media approach and Kennedy's photographic practice. Together, the artists investigate dimensional illegibility and impermanence as ways of prompting an unstable viewing experience. Here, the image represents water clouded with algae, but the details are abstracted through translucency and layering. It’s paired with the collapsing fabric grid, and the gridded shadow cast against the wall adds a third form that is even more ephemeral. The grid references how our human experience is filtered through mediating structures, and by using textiles to soften structured lines and imagery, these elements become pliable, changeable. A tension emerges between structure and haze. The work is meant to explore this intersection, questioning what emerges in the gap between perception and understanding.
