Artist: Mimi Tran | Location: Jacksonville, FL
Jacksonville, FL
Mimi Tran is a first-generation Vietnamese American interdisciplinary artist. Her family escaped the Vietnam War and settled in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1991. Through her paintings, sculptures, and installations, she reflects on her family's past while exploring themes of nostalgia, loss, and the complexities of the immigrant experience. In her quest to
preserve her heritage, Tran challenges harmful stereotypes about Asians by depicting authentic representations of her community.
Tran earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2019 from the University of North Florida and her Master of Fine Arts in 2024 from Florida State University. She currently serves as an adjunct professor and the Digital Media Fabrication Lab manager at Florida State University.
Her work has been exhibited in Rome, Italy, Scranton, PA, and throughout Florida, most recently at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville and the Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts.
