"...Unless" is a reflection on the current perspective of living in the evangelical rural South during a period of global, catastrophic climate change. By using similar language and font of evangelical Christian signage posted promoting fear of a coming apocalypse, this work hopes to address the real concerns of global warming and increased impact of hurricanes throughout the Southeastern US. Culled from drawings of forested areas immediately preceding a clear cut, the imagery in the piece was digitally scanned and engraved onto handmade paper consisting partly of material acquired post clear cut and displayed in a row to reference signage seen throughout the I95 corridor of South Carolina. The title, "...Unless" refers to the hope that although our situation might seem dire and we should treat climate change as a tangible and real threat to our communities, there is still hope through mutual aid and mindful use of resources.
