Leaving the mark of time and expressing respect and love for diversity is the core of this work. The use of lacquer-an insect-resistant and durable material-dates back 8300 years to China, and has been imbued with cultural meanings and symbols of regional and national identity. Apples, as one of the representative products of NC, are short-lived, perishable and highly personalized. The use of lacquer records and expresses the process of apple decay and reproduces and preserves the fast disappearing time and the short-lived life. While reflecting the transience and richness of individual life, it also is an intense collision of two material properties. Allowing the apple to dry naturally or rot inside the lacquer shell, it preserves the different states and the final ruins of entropic change produced by the random process of apple decay. The visual effect formed by the natural change of the object demonstrates the beauty of heavenly creation that is difficult to achieve by artificial means.
