My piece, "A Journey to Light," is a mixed media visual narrative that honors the life of Dr. Ronald McNair, a son of Lake City, SC, whose remarkable journey from a segregated town to the stars as an astronaut, has inspired countless lives, including my own. His life represents more than just personal achievement; it embodies the power of perseverance. His story reminds me to continue breaking barriers and to inspire future generations through my work. The artwork is a tribute to McNair's courage and brilliance, but it is also a reflection of my own path as an artist, one that has been shaped by the rich cultural legacy of African Americans in the South, and the belief that, no matter the odds, we must continue to reach for the stars.
