This piece was inspired by the light phenomenon exhibited in Antelope Canyon, a sacred Navajo Nation site located in Arizona. The large amounts of iron-oxide found in the rock that it is composed of has an unusual way of reflecting light which transforms its rusty orange interior to a symphony of jewel tones. A small wedge of the sky is always visible while inside the canyon, a sharp contrast and a reminder of the outside world. It is viewed as a spiritually sacred spot where the veil is thin enough between those who have passed and those who live in the present to convene and connect.
