I have a saying, "have camera, will travel." It can also be turned around to "when traveling, I always have my camera!" On a trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica, I told my tour guide, "I want to see the people in their true environment, not just the tourist areas." We talked about how I loved capturing stories through my photography and he knew exactly where to take me. As we drove about, I saw a colorful building with a man painting the side of it. As I looked closer, I realized that he was creating a mural of storybook characters, with one of them being "Big Bird" from Sesame Street. What disturbed me as I looked, was it had bars over the window, in my opinion, a school shouldn't have that. But, when I looked closer, I saw faces of small children that were peering through the window, curious as to what this person was doing. At that moment, the bars didn't bother me anymore; they actually added to the story. What really added to the mood were their expressions; they saw everything and were secure.
