Gerry O'Meara

Born in Tokyo, Japan, I have spent most of my life in Augusta, Georgia. I received my BFA from the University of Georgia in 1974 with a concentration in textiles, but it was not until after my retirement from the practice of Medicine that I have been able to pursue my passion for creating fine art. Clay is my medium of choice and my preferred process is throwing on the wheel. Nature provides inspiration for my glaze palette and for my surface designs and textures which are hand-carved or painted. Any embellishments are typically found, natural objects. My primary focus is creating functional pieces that are both unique and aesthetically pleasing. My hope is that my work will evoke, through use or a moment of meditation, some feeling of tranquility for the user/viewer and a respite from the angst that seems so prevalent.
