Candace Hackett Shively's works burst from thoughts that won't let go: of human interactions, nature's creations, or current events. She montages fabric, art media, and photographs, working directly with the materials or digitally combining them before printing onto fabric. She then "draws" on her compositions with thread. The stitching breathes life.
Ms. Shively has lived all over the U.S., but credits childhood in the San Francisco Bay Area for nurturing her creativity. She studied printmaking and photography as an undergraduate but found her true medium, the art quilt, in a break-through, interdisciplinary graduate exhibit of art and writing. Retired from a career in education, she moved to Georgia where she has immersed herself in fiber art.
Her works have juried into highly competitive fiber art and fine art exhibits, including ArtFields 2023 and 2024. She is an active member of Studio Art Quilt Associates where she serves as a volunteer leader among her artist peers.
