Born abroad in Germany to an American military family, I always found myself somewhat of a nomad, in many senses. Pursuing art in a serious way from a very young age, I received my BFA at School of Visual Arts in New York and my MFA at Indiana University.
I have lived in too many places to name, but warm weather and the coast always calls me home.
An import to the Charleston area, I find the Low Country terrain a rich backdrop for creating visual poetry. In my newest set of paintings, I am interested in creating a dream-like mythos of the coast and the low country that is also influenced by Baroque and Symbolist traditions.
My paintings are celebrations of Painting itself, of imagination, and of the dream space. Thematically, I prefer motifs that are archetypal, rather than literal or ideological. I'm always reaching for the thing that harmonizes what is deeply personal with what is also iconic and universal.
