Kate Windley was born in the agricultural region of northeastern North Carolina in a small, coastal community located on the Pamlico Sound. She is an Associate Professor of Visual Art at the University of North Georgia. She teaches in a partnership program with the not-for-profit Oconee Cultural Arts Center in Watkinsville, Georgia. She received a BFA in Painting and Drawing from East Carolina University and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Georgia. Kate has travelled throughout Mexico, Cuba, and Nicaragua. Currently, she is raising her son, Leo, in Stephens, Georgia. In 2013, her son was diagnosed with a rare syndrome, Nicoladies-Baraitser. As a result, the role of caretaker and advocate shapes her creative practice. She has exhibited works at the International Print Center, The Anderson, and Berry College.
