M Greenwald is a Virginia-based artist who lives on a ridge and likes to sit and watch the vultures. They work through the language of craft materials to explore themes of magic, the body, and land. In this, finding spaces for connection and restoration, as well as reckoning with sites of fracture, loss, and grief in the context of capitalism, colonialism, and whiteness. M currently teaches at the School of Art and Art History at James Madison University, where they also earned their MFA in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts. They have attended residencies at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Hyattsville, MD the Urban Soils Institute at the SWALE house on Governors Island, NYC, and TEXERE in Oaxaca, Mexico, and have exhibited work in Baltimore, New York, and Seoul. Outside of their artistic practice, they are a farm worker at Second Mountain Farm, a gardener of medicinal herbs and dye plants.
