I paint light within a landscape on traditional and alternative surfaces. Most often my products are large landscape paintings, installation environments, fabric sculptures or painted costumes. For some projects I integrate technology into the surface of my paintings to further communicate the painting process and environmental experience. Living in Belington, West Virginia, in the Appalachian mountains with my family where I am often exploring the rivers and mountains near home capturing the changing light within the landscape. Exploring the balance between the light and shadow in the natural environment has been my focus for the past twenty years. The process of painting color is the way that I explore the world and how I communicate my experience and share it with the viewer. The completed painting, installation, or object is then meant to draw the viewer in and create that moment of distraction from the physical world by leading them into their own memories and ideas.
