When I was a child, we lived next door to a beautiful forest. A path bordered with wild roses ended at an iron fence with an ornate gate. Entering the gate, I was thrilled to realize I was in a room complete with four walls and a roof covered with honeysuckle and honeybees. My little sister and I made this our secret garden. We took books and furniture from our rooms and spent as much time as we could in our Honeysuckle Room. Neither of us were ever stung, which made the place more magical. We came home from school one day and found the forest gone and replaced with a huge pile of smoldering trees. I have long since moved away. My children had their own beautiful forest in our backyard where they had favorite places to play. Today, when the leaves are gone in winter, I can see a housing development that once was 1100 acres of forest. There are five more developments within a 6 mile radius of our house. "Forest Sanctuary" is an homage to those acres and the wild creatures that lived there.
