A defining drive in Samantha Hand's art is to seek out everyday materials and reimagine them in unconventional ways. In this work, "Grace," she works with wood veneer and satin fabric, searching for compositions where negative spaces and graceful curves evoke both the body's contours and nature's organic lines. As wood veneer is applied to alter a surface, satin fabric symbolizes our personal clothing choices as we construct and present our identities to the world. "Grace" explores how our decisions reveal or obscure inner complexities, inviting the viewer to consider the personal veneers that they themselves wear.
