In our complex, intertwining society, the roles we play and the facets we reveal are subject to societal expectations. Particularly for women, historical connotations amplify these social assumptions. Through the interplay of 3-dimensional layers and image transparencies, the work encapsulates the dichotomy between what is shown and what remains concealed due to collective expectations. The wooden frames symbolize the confining boxes imposed on us. Some of the frames are carved to coerce the fit of the material layers within. Other pieces have resin pieces of organic material or insects floating within symbolizing the decorative nature placed upon the feminine role. She asks the question "How are we, not ourselves?" The work highlights the discomfort inherent in these presumptions about our identities.
