Laura Garner Hine is an artist creating and working in Columbia, South Carolina. Though she works predominately in oil paints and gold leaf, she does not limit herself when it comes to media. She was raised in the city of Columbia, South Carolina and received her BFA with a focus in painting and a minor in Art History from the University of South Carolina. Having lived and studied abroad for five years, she also holds a Masters Certification in the Conservation of Easel Paintings as well as Gilded Frames from Accademia Riaci in Florence, Italy. She likes the opposites of the world we live in, and experiences or situations which suspend one's categories of thinking. What inspires her could be a dream, an emotion, a person, a landscape, a dead bird. The paramount function of art in her life is that it gives her a sense of wonder and play, even since childhood. This is what she hopes to preserve when creating her art, and what she hopes to give to and inspire in others, as well.
