Charles Elwell

I am currently an undergraduate student pursuing a BFA in studio art at Middle Tennessee State University located in Murfreesboro, about thirty minutes outside of Nashville. My artistic practice explores the complex and layered essence of memory, an act of recollection that is often indescribable. Through my work, I attempt to elicit my perception of this intangible experience. The layered surface of my paintings, with the inclusion of laser-engraving and other forms of overlay, reflects the multifaceted nature of memory. Family history plays a significant role in shaping my perspective on interactions, objects, and other subjects addressed in the work. Other factors such as daily, routine occurrences are exhibited by the images superimposed through laser-engraving; occurrences that spark remembrance.
