I am an artist who uses digital photography to explore themes of belief. For the last three years I have been working on three major figurative projects called "American Goddess," "Tarot Garden," and "Aliens Amongst Us." The last two projects have been collaborations with painters Trish Klenow and Be Boggs. This image is from "Aliens Amongst Us" where Boggs and I explore the notion of Alienation by using sci-fi tropes as a starting point. My photos are from the point of view of three aliens that have appeared on earth over and over throughout time to develop their understanding of what it means to be human. They travel through portals that appear as part of changing weather patterns. In this image, one of the aliens appears outside an abandoned gas station in rural Virginia off route 85. The figure appears like a giant on the horizon as she struggles to enter the world. All of our sci-fi scenarios are entry points for further interpretation on the larger theme of alienation.
