On June 14, 2022, I stood before Svínafellsjökull, an outlet of Vatnajökull, Europe's largest ice cap. This encounter inspired my multidisciplinary project "Retreating," which captures the profound impact of witnessing a glacier's slow disappearance. Iceland's glaciers, covering one-tenth of the country, are rapidly retreating due to climate change. Vatnajökull spans 7800 km², a testament to nature's grandeur and vulnerability. This video immerses viewers in the overwhelming presence of a retreating glacier, evoking the weight of its imminent transformation. The haunting sound of the melting glacier, recreated from memory, underscores our environmental crisis. "Retreating" transcends mere documentation; it's a call to reflection and action. By bridging scientific data and emotional experience, I aim to foster a deeper connection to our changing planet. This project serves as a stark reminder of our role in shaping Earth's future landscapes.
