"Sights" is an interactive large-scale teleidoscope, a type of kaleidoscope designed to view the surrounding environment. The work is constructed primarily from reclaimed materials, including a water heater pulled from the floodplain of a nature preserve in Atlanta, GA. Participants can explore the shapes, colors, light, and shadows of the surrounding space through the ever-changing display inside the tube. This work is part of a series that requires active participation of the audience, provides opportunities to connect with and learn about nature, and develops and encourages better ways of living in, and with our world. "Sights" is about playfully exploring our perceptions and cultivating creative modes of observation. I am specifically interested in working at the intersection of ecological restoration and public art, utilizing materials and resources diverted from our contemporary trash stratum. "Sights" invites the curious to see the world around them, including our trash, in new ways.
