Artist: Julia Hill | Location: Atlanta, GA
Atlanta, GA
Julia Hill is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Atlanta, GA. She uses large-scale puppetry, drawing and painting, public art, and sculpture to explore ecological themes and cultivate curiosity. The artist's interpretations of natural forces and abstracted animal representations reflect her time spent exploring urban forests and fringes, participating in community cleanups, and observing nature and environmental patterns. Objects salvaged from these wanderings, such as twisted and weathered steel bits, concrete rubble, and other found detritus, are an increasingly dominant component in her work.
Her studio pursuits are enriched by her business Sculpture Things, providing a suite of services including custom fabrication, art direction, project management, and public art installation services for the region's creative industries.
Past residencies include the Hambidge Center in north Georgia and Proyecto 'ace in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She holds a BFA from Tulane University (2005).
