I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from Georgia State University after completing work on an M.A. degree in philosophy and an M.F.A. degree in sculpture. I recently retired from teaching art in a private school and practice art on a full time basis. My art practice is focused on wood as a primary physical medium while the techniques and tools I use range from a simple carving gouge to a CNC machine. My aspiration as an artist is to create aesthetically beautiful objects, experiences, which requires the balancing of two basic components: concept and craftsmanship. Excellent wood craftsmanship requires attention to species selection, joinery, structural properties, and finishing among other aspects. As a starting point, excellent conceptual development requires an understanding of how materials can be meaningful, how objects have histories, and how representation creates delight.
