"Tower of Babel" illustrates the tragedy facing the severely intellectually disabled population. I have a nineteen-year-old profoundly autistic son. At age 3, we paid thousands to have him medically diagnosed. Next, was private nursery with an adult. In public school he was suspended and shipped around from school to school. Now, we are paying for medical guardianship and looking at dismal adult options. We have been shamed, discriminated against, and endured collective trauma. Caregivers and families of intellectually disabled persons need to have more resources. Public school babbles we don't have resources, and we cannot accommodate your child. Society babbles we pay taxes so we should have unlimited resources and options. How can we help this population? Dialogue needs to start, not Babel.
