I was born and raised in Western North Carolina and started seriously building a studio practice around five years ago. I work in various mediums including video, film photography, sculpture, printmaking, and painting; they all feed into each other in ways that help me stay inspired and active in the studio. While my practice is varied in medium and method, everything I make comes back to themes of body, space, and escape.
My paintings are quite personal to me, and I almost always use myself in my reference photos. I think about escapism and the body in a literal spatial sense when painting but also as a feeling or desire that never really seems achievable. Painting is cathartic for me as I reflect on the escape fantasies that I had as a child and offer myself relief through imagined spaces and scenarios in which I was able to act on those fantasies.
