ArtFields 2021 Call for Submissions

A Letter From Our Director To Artists Applying To ArtFields 2021

Dear Artists,

As Director of the ArtFields Collective, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and speak directly to the artists considering applying to our 2021 competition.

If you’re new to ArtFields, welcome! I invite you to learn more about our history here. Originally, ArtFields was launched in 2013 as a way to celebrate Southeastern art, and we’ve been doing just that ever since. ArtFields is unlike any art event and art competition you’ve taken part in. We do things differently—on purpose—because we believe the art world needs a fresh perspective.

  • We believe Southern art is American art, so we have a competition focused on just that to elevate the often overlooked art from our region.
  • We believe that art is for everyone, so there are no admission fees to attend the event and we hang art in places that people feel comfortable visiting—bringing art to the people in a radical way.
  • Lastly, we believe in supporting artists, which is why we have significant prizes up for grabs and why we work to ensure networking opportunities while artists are in town for the event.

This past year has affected all of us more than we could have ever imagined. We were devastated to not able to gather last Spring as we’d hoped. There’s so much uncertainty out there, but what is certain is that there will always be a place for art in Lake City. We do things differently in Lake City—in many ways, that’s prepared us to adapt to the new challenges faced by art institutions. So, while we cannot predict what the next week, month or even year may look like, we can promise our dedication and commitment to bring art—your art—to life in Lake City.

The world needs art; that was true when we started ArtFields, and it couldn’t be more true right now. Art documents the world around us, capturing a moment in time. Art moves us, and art brings us together. I speak for all of us at ArtFields when I say it is you all who inspire us, who make us look forward to doing the work we do and who move our industry further each and every year. We cannot wait to see your ArtFields 2021 submissions. Click here to read the rules and submit!

Sincerely,

Jamison Kerr
