Kim Dick (born 1977, Ashland, KY) makes sculptures, photos and installations. By choosing mainly formal solutions, she makes work that deals with the documentation of events and the question of how they can be presented. These formal associations open a uniquely poetic vein in which the fragility or strength of our seemingly certain reality is questioned. She creates intense personal moments examined by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round and round in circles. These thought processes, which are private, highly subjective, and unfiltered in their references to dream worlds, are frequently revealed as assemblages. By emphasizing aesthetics, she creates with daily, recognizable elements, an unprecedented situation in which the viewer is confronted with the conditioning of their own perception and has to reconsider their potentially biased position.
