How It Works

The Art You Make Matters

We are glad you are reading this. It means that you might want to submit for ArtFields 2018 and win part of the $120,000 in cash prizes. If selected, you and your artwork will be in one of the Southeast’s major art events, a nine-day April affair in Lake City, S.C. Your work will be among some 400 exhibited throughout our downtown in galleries, warehouses, restaurants, shops and other venues. Thousands of people will see it, including art curators, critics and other art professionals and news media of all sorts from all over the place. And then there are the collectors, of course. Please look at the rules and prize information before you submit. Also look at the changes we made; some are spelled out below.

ArtFields has five years under its belt, and we want to make the competition and exhibition better than ever. We want to show even higher quality art, improve the presentation of the art, attract bigger audiences, generate increased interest from art professionals nationwide and receive more exposure in art publications and other local, regional, national and international media. All that will serve you, the artists of the region, too. We are shooting for even more submissions than before. You can help with that by submitting your best artwork for consideration and by telling your friends and colleagues about the opportunity ArtFields provides. We hope you will and thank you in advance. Here are some of the changes.

Top Prize Change

The $50,000 Top Prize winner used to be selected by the jury from the top-50 vote getters for the People’s Choice awards. That has changed. For ArtFields 2018, we have eliminated the link between Top Prize and People’s Choice voting. As was the case already for the $25,000 second-place Juried Prize, the top prize, too, is now a straightforward jury award. We’ve also renamed the two top awards as “Grand Prize” and “Second Place.”

Rules Revamp

We have rewritten the artists rules to clarify what submissions ArtFields does and does not accept. This should make for better guidelines for both you, the artist, and the selection committee of art professionals, which decides which artworks get in.

Size Matters

We have set limits on the size of artworks ArtFields will accept, although the allotment of space a single artwork may receive is still very generous.

Cutting The Clutter

There have been complaints about the clutter caused in ArtFields venues by artists’ promotional materials. We agree, have set size limits for those materials and will standardize how the materials will be displayed.
